Seascapes - Performance & Workshop Series
NSW Government brings live art into the surrounding Sydney Fish Market precinct Seascapes – a live performance and workshop series. Curated by Daniel Mudie Cunningham and Cultural Capital, this evolving program transforms the surrounding precinct into a stage for unique performance, sound, movement and shared experiences.
Across 14 artist-led projects, from oyster shucking to printmaking, dance and hands-on workshops to foghorn orchestras, all unfolding alongside the rhythm of daily market life.
Shaped by water, seasonality and place, the Seascapes series reimagines the market precinct as more than a place to buy seafood, it’s a space for connection, culture and exchange.
Visit Sydney Fish Market precinct to enjoy free performances and workshops (some workshops require bookings – see links below).
Please note that the program is subject to change.

Hossei – Esssenssse
The Civic Plaza transform into a surreal underwater stage in this exuberant aquatic pageant. Sixteen larger-than-life sea-creature costumes glide through the space in a colourful procession, each with its own distinct personality, movement and rhythm. Accompanied by a live vibraphone score that improvises in response to every creature.

Lauren Brincat – Black Water
Black Water is a contemplative, site-responsive performance unfolding through movement, fabric and ritual. Long textiles evoke fishing nets, tides and wounds, reflecting on Australia’s aquatic ecosystems and the industries surrounding them. Carried, coiled and lifted through choreographed gestures, the work transforms the site into an immersive space for reflection — inviting audiences to consider the histories, labour and environmental forces shaping the waters that sustain communities.

Greg Sindel with Studio A - Call me Ishmael! A Moby Dick Storytelling
Artist and graphic novelist Greg Sindel brings his epic interpretation of Moby Dick off the page and into a one-day-only live performance at Sydney Fish Market. Captivated by Herman Melville’s classic tale, Greg has published his own 68-page graphic homage to the story, and now, he’s bringing it to life!
“Call me Ishmael!” Dressed as the legendary narrator and taking to the deck of a handmade prop boat created with Studio A, Greg will plunge audiences into a world of raging seas, terrifying encounters and the obsessive pursuit of the great white whale. Embodying a colourful cast of characters, Greg will perform his favourite moments of adventure, terror and revenge.
Greg Sindel works with Studio A, a leading Australian supported studio for professional artists with intellectual disability.
