There are no upcoming classes for Ian Hemphill at this time.
Herbie has long been the nickname of Ian Hemphill, who spent his childhood surrounded by herbs and spices, when his parents, John and Rosemary, were pioneering the Australian herb and spice scene in the 1950s.
In 1997, after 30 years working in the spice industry - in industrial brokering, manufacturing and marketing - Ian and his wife Liz started their artisanal spice business, Herbie’s Spices in a chilli-red-coloured terrace house in Rozelle. They closed the shop in 2016, to spend more time at The Spicery on the Central Coast where they develop new spice blends and plan their guided Spice Discovery Tours. Herbie’s Spices ever-growing range is still available online and through many retail outlets.
Author of The Spice & Herb Bible [now in its 3rd edition and previously published as Spice Notes], an 800-page tome sold in North America, Britain and Australia, Ian is regarded as a leading authority on the extensive world of herbs and spices.
Ian and Liz are passionate about sharing their knowledge and unique spice experiences with as many people as possible, through their website (a fabulous resource), workshops, and tours to India.
